I was shopping around just last week for a new dashcam to replace the cheap Pilot one I have. I found myself getting really picky about the features I wanted and narrowed my choices down to a few units that were over $300 each.
Yikes. I’ll have to save up for that.
In the meantime, I ordered an off-brand one for a little over $50, and just got it installed today. Hopefully it doesn’t turn out to be a waste of money. It had a wide variety of reviews, so anything could happen, I guess.

It’s some weird Chinese one. The model number is HDE-C18; I found it on Amazon.
It’s a dual channel model, which is one of the main reasons for the purchase. Despite Amazon’s less-than-accurate description, the forward camera records 1920x1080 while the rearward one is 720x480.
Some of Amazon’s reviews are unreliable. I’ve found that you need to spend some time in the menu, setting it up just right to activate certain features.

My buddy has one, and it was an Chinese-made Amazon purchase. Whenever it cycles on/off, a Chinese woman’s voice says something. We’re assuming she saying “hello/goodbye”, or “recording.”
He said setting it was was a pain the ass, since the instructions they sent were from another unit, and the only ones available online were in Chinese.
This is the first dashcam I have seen marketed in the US. I’m assuming it’s a piece of shit, but am also wondering if this will open the door for more.

That’s pretty nice being dual camera.
I got mine over a year ago now from some Chinese company on Amazon. It works very very well for what It is. I just can’t figure out how to change the timestamp. I didn’t know it used military time when I got it so i have it on AM when it should be PM. And daylights saving messed it up.
Mine has like 3.2 stars on Amazon as well. But it records very nicely and hasn’t caused any problems yet.
